JOSE J. LAMAS, ESQ.

Jose J. Lamas, Esq. is an attorney with over a decade of experience in complex civil litigation and insurance law issues in Puerto Rico State and Federal Court. He obtained his Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude, from Pontifical Catholic University School of Law in the year 2013, and later studied his LL.M. in Insurance Law from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Admitted as a licensed attorney in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Federal District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston.

Mr. Lamas has extensive experience in insurance law and complex civil litigation. For the past ten years his legal practice has included insurance coverage litigation, policy interpretation, casualty and property claim handling, insurance defense litigation, and insurance bad faith consultation and litigation. In addition to insurance, he handles legal matters that include commercial litigation, contractual disputes, professional liability, personal injury, medical mal-practice, and premises liability, among others. Jose J. Lam., Esq. has handled multiple bench and jury trials in State and Federal Court.

As a member of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, Mr. Lamas has occupied positions as member of their Board of Directors, presided over the Bar Asociations’s Civil Law Commission, and instructed multiples lectures in the areas of insurance litigation and civil law.

Mr. Lamas currently sits as the President of the Board of Directors of UNA-USA PR Chapter, Inc., a non-profit corporation inspired by both—the legacy of Pablo Canals at the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNA-USA Puerto Rico coordinates programs and activities in the areas of education and volunteerism—while collaborating on concrete initiatives to promote, integrate, advance, measure, and finance the SDGs locally.
